Ha Yi Qi is well known in the Western world, having written the classic book, Chinese Artistic Kites with his father, Ha Kuiming. Ha is a third generation kite maker in Beijing who is preserving the classic Chinese kites as they have been made for centuries. He paints on silk or an extremely fine gossamer paper that is like spun cloth. We were fortunate to see him in Beijing at his home with his family.
Below are some of the miniature swallow kites and butterfly kites he showed us while we sipped tea with his wife and son, and our companions Li Hua and Yang Huan Xing who served as our guides for both Ha and Leng
